How much does it cost?
Travelling on a moped has lots of advatages, including the one of beeing a cheap way of transport. Life in Africa can be ridiculously cheap and it's common to be invited... and giving some money in exchange is considered as an insult. In Africa, you would never charge your friends!
It's pretty difficult to give you a detailled list of the expenses, but total costs for 6 months travelling, everything included didn't exceeded 4000 to 4500 euros.
Here are the biggest expenses I had to pay for:
- Brand new PEUGEOT moped bought in Ouagadougou : 710 Euros (and still works!)
- Spares, services, and tools: 50 euros
- Upgrades (top case, racks for petrol bidons): 35 euros
- One way ticket Paris-Ouagadougou: 310 euros
- Vaccine matters, rabbies, yellow fiever, meningite: about 200 Euros (I had a few already)
- Malaria tablets: 120 euros
- Inssurance for travelling abroad: 30 Euros
- Guide books and maps: 50 euros
- Tent: 15 euros (second hand, bought in Guinea)
- Petrol costs: about 300 euros (cheaper than a flight ticket!)
- Lift in the lorry in south morocco for 1260 kilometers: 50 Euros (3 days!)
- 6 months of daily expenses (drinking, eating, sleeping, visiting, going out): about 2000 Euros
- Bribes: 4,5 euros... (for 3 bakchichs!)
